Bamberg Center for Artificial Intelligence (BaCAI) Established
The Bamberg Center for Artificial Intelligence (BaCAI) at the University of Bamberg has now been officially opened with its first general meeting. The research center bundles AI research at the University of Bamberg. It comprises nine core AI professorships dedicated to a wide range of research areas within artificial intelligence, from various aspects of machine learning to language generation and dialogue systems, AI system development and cognitive systems.
The two existing AI professorships at the Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Sciences since 2004 and 2013 were supplemented by seven additional AI professorships thanks to the University of Bamberg's great success in the Bavarian AI competition. A further nine professorships for computer science and information systems with strong links to AI and AI applications in industry, healthcare and education will be added to the centre.
The emphasis on interdisciplinary aspects established for Bamberg's computer science will be implemented at BaCAI through cooperation with the humanities and social sciences within the framework of the Center for Innovative Applications of Computer Science (ZIAI). The center is the cornerstone for a broad expansion of research in the field of AI. A new degree programme in "AI and Data Science" will broaden the range of courses offered in the field of AI, which has been in existence since 2004. The establishment of a graduate programme is also planned.
