Prof. Dr. Janine Hacker

Dr. Janine Hacker has held the Chair of Information Systems and Social Networks at the University of Bamberg since February 2026.

Curriculum vitae

Dr Janine Hacker completed her studies in International Information Systems (MSc.) at Friedrich-Alexander-Universit?t Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). She then worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Information Systems, specialising in the service sector, and completed her doctorate with summa cum laude in 2017. During this time, she spent several research stays as a visiting scholar at the Discipline of Business Information Systems at the University of Sydney in Australia. From 2018 to 2020, Dr Hacker worked as a senior assistant in the Information Management Research Group at the Institute of Informatics at the University of Zurich in Switzerland. She then worked as an assistant professor at the Business School of the University of Liechtenstein.
Dr Hacker's research work is interdisciplinary and applied in nature. She has successfully initiated and carried out projects with colleagues from the fields of computer science, sociology and music education, as well as with partners from industry (including Deloitte Australia, Deloitte Switzerland, Datev eG and Siemens AG). Her research has been published in various journals, including EJIS, I&O, CMR and BISE. 
Dr Hacker has served as track chair and associate editor for leading international information systems conferences (including ECIS and ICIS) on several occasions. In addition, she regularly serves as a reviewer for various journals, including MISQ, ISJ, EJIS and BISE.

Research interests

Dr Hacker's research focuses on the use and design of digital communication and collaboration technologies in various contexts. Using qualitative and quantitative approaches, she investigates how these technologies are accepted by users, how they influence their working and living environments, and what transformative effects they have at the individual, corporate and societal levels.
