Department of Turkish Studies: Study Programs
In Bamberg, the Turkology program focuses on the history and culture of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey.
- Turkology can be studied as a Master's Degree in Turkology or as a content-related focus in the following study programs, to whose teaching program the Chair of Turkology contributes:
- Bachelor program Islamic Orient (German only) In Bamberg, this study program is jointly organized by the chairs/professorships Arabic Studies, Iranian Studies, Islamic Studies, Islamic Art History and Archeology and Turkology. It leads to a first professional qualification, the "Bachelor of Arts". The chair of Turkology offers Turkish language training as well as lectures and seminars on Ottoman and Turkish history as part of this program.
- Master's Program Cultural Studies of the Middle East: This course of study, sponsored by the Elite Network of Bavaria, which is jointly organized by the Universities of Bamberg and Erlangen, also allows a focus on Turkology. (From winter term 2024/25, enrollment is no longer possible).
- Those who already hold an MA degree in a related field may apply for doctoral studies leading to a Dr. phil. There is the possibility of a membership in the Bamberg Graduate School of Near and Middle Eastern Studies (BaGOS)
