Service infrastructure for exchange students
If you have questions about studying at the University of Bamberg, the International Office is your first contact. There you will get all the necessary information about application, dormitories and financing of your study abroad. In addition, the International Office organizes the Tandem Program, which provides exchange students with personal tutors who will answer your questions and will help you to solve problems and to settle in quickly in Bamberg and at the university.
The Language Centreoffers special German courses for foreign students. The level ranges from A1 to Business German. The "Language learning for two" programme focuses on cultural exchange and there is also a theatre workshop for international students.

Exchange students at the Faculty Social Sciences, Economics, and Business Administration
Students who come to Bamberg for one or two semesters within an exchange programme and who do not pursue a degree at the university can choose from almost all courses. You are not bound by any study or examination regulations. You are free to focus on meaningful courses for your studies at your home university or on your personal interests.
UNICOACH 3: Appendix(2.2 MB) |
Most of the courses are open to the public, but the number of participants may be limited and certain admission requirements must be met. It is possible that visiting students will not be able to take exams in all courses. For a first overview and especially an English description of the content of most courses, please refer to the ECTS-Guide(1.4 MB, 102 pages) of the faculty.
Detailed information about the single courses and the registration procedure
Unfortunately, registering for exams and courses is not always easy as there are no common rules or deadlines. Generally, registering for a course and registering for an exam are two different things:
- Registration for the course is not always necessary; it serves the capacity planning of the chairs and does not entitle the student to take the exam. Deadlines for registration often end before the start of the lecture period. The registration methods are different (FlexNow, email, form on the homepage, in writing ...).
- Registration for an exam is always necessary to take an exam. The chairs can have the registration organized by the administration (central exams) or take over the organization themselves (decentralized exams).
It is very important to check for each course how and for what exactly you have to register as it may happen that you have to register separately for the course as well as the exam for one subject of a chair, while you can attend another subject of the same chair without registering for the course. Information on registration can be found in most cases either in UnivIS or on the homepage of the responsible chair.
For the detailed planning of courses, you can find information on the language of teaching and examination, # ECTS, form of examination, imparted competences and further literature in the module handbooks or also on the websites of the individual chairs. Furthermore, you can find a list with courses taught in English at the homepage of the international office.
Registration for classes and exams
All centrally organized registrations and many decentrally organized registrations take place via FlexNow. In order to be able to register via FlexNow, you must be enrolled in Bamberg, i.e. have a student ID and a matriculation number.
In order to receive all necessary documents for the registration of the summer semester 2025 in time (before the beginning of the lecture period) you have to submit the documents for the enrollment at the latest by
14.03.2025
to the students office.
It is, therefore, important that you find out how to register for each subject. You will find information on the websites of the chairs, in UnivIS or, in case of centrally organized exams, on the website of the examination office:

UnivIS
UnivIS is an online information system you can access at univis.uni-bamberg.de. It is a central data forum of the university: from room directory to contact data of employees to the complete course catalogue, you will find the information you are looking for. Some chairs also provide information on their courses directly via UnivIS.
Furthermore, you can create your timetable via the online-Tool in UnivIS.
Chairs at SoWi
Chairs are the smallest organizational unit at academic level. A professor is the head of the chair. The chairs have a relatively narrowly defined content profile in research and teaching. Several chairs together form subject groups or institutes and offer degrees jointly, as a subject group or institute, or increasingly across subjects. If you are looking for courses in a specific subject area, we advise you to start your search at the corresponding subject group and to get an overview of the different topics offered by the chairs of the subject group. You will find detailed information on the courses offered on the pages of the chairs in the study section. The pages of the subject groups or the chairs of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences can be found hereunder:
