Thorsten Peetz is a sociologist with a strong focus on theory, culture, media, organizations, the economy, and processes of valuation. He studied social sciences at the University of Würzburg, Humboldt University (Berlin), and The New School for Social Research (New York). He received a Dr. phil. in sociology from Humboldt University for a theoretical and empirical study of processes of economization in educational organizations. Peetz later worked as a Post Doc and interim professor of sociological theory at the University of Bremen, as well as an Associate Junior Fellow at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg (Institute for Advanced Study) in Delmenhorst. He also co-coordinated the network "On the Road to a Valuation Society?", funded by the DFG.
Currently, Thorsten Peetz serves as an interim professor of sociological theory at the University of Bamberg. His research interests include sociological theory, qualitative methods, the sociologies of organizations, culture, media, and the economy, with a particular focus on the broad and interdisciplinary field of valuation studies. His current projects address theories of valuation, digital intimate valuation, and the process of saint-seeking within the Roman Catholic Church. Additionally, he is involved in a Working Group on “Organization and Valuation.”
