Practical training phases are an indispensable component of the teacher training programme, allowing students to self-reflect on their aptitude for the teaching profession and for the purpose of professionalisation. A variety of internships are therefore an integral part of the teacher training programme.
The Bavarian Teacher Examination Regulations I (LPO I) prescribe the following types of internships for all teacher training programmes at the University of Bamberg:
orientation internship,
pedagogical-didactic internship at school,
supplemental didactical internship,
additional supplemental internship (only for primary and secondary school (Mittelschule) teachers),
work placement.
The requirements for practical training in schools vary depending on the type of school the teacher training programme is specific to, or whether you are studying Vocational Education or supplementary programmes.
Orientation Internship
The orientation internship, which should be completed before you take up your degree programme, is particularly interesting for you as a prospective student. It constitutes a test of your personal aptitude for dealing responsibly with children and teens from a teacher’s point of view.
If you’d like to complete the orientation internship before taking up a teaching degree programme at the University of Bamberg, please see the following information:
Duration: 3 – 4 weeks with approx. 20 (full-time) hours per week;
Station(s): completion of at least one week at a public or state-recognised school; the orientation internship must be completed at a minimum of two different types of schools;
Recommendation: experience of all-day schools, preschool educational institutions, child and youth welfare institutions, types of school outside the scope of your intended teacher training programme;
Completion: The orientation internship must be completed at the latest before the start of the pedagogical-didactic school internship;
Implementation: Students are required to conduct a self-organised search for internship school(s)/institution(s); they may observe and assist in class, but they do not teach or supervise a class on their own
