Heritage Conservation
Within the KDWT, the Heritage Conservation division undertakes research on cultural heritage in the fields of the humanities and cultural studies. This includes topics such as architectural conservation, preservation history and theory, and the history of urban planning. The explicit aim is to transfer the results of research to the relevant fields of practice, and to ensure that these results can be linked to other disciplines. In addition, we address topics in the international discourse on heritage from both a contemporary and an historical perspective, with the aim of rethinking the 'traditional', object-centered concept of Denkmal (monument) in terms of more recent, social concepts of (cultural) heritage.
Beyond this fundamental orientation, the specific profile of the division is shaped by its two research focus areas "The City and Heritage Conservation" and "Value Discourses".
