Research profile

The professorship has three main areas of research, which are addressed and worked on in various projects, publications and courses:

    History of data modelling;
    Upcycling, data reuse and historical data criticism;
    Methods of machine learning in historical studies

Research at the professorship of Digital History focuses on the analysis of non-narrative sources, such as

    Customs registers
    Historical reference works, e.g. dictionaries, lexicons and encyclopaedias
    Historical journals (especially advertising)

The focus is on social and economic history, the history of knowledge and Central and East European history (see projects).

The professorship also has a special interest in historical metrology, the study of pre-modern units of weight and measurement (see CIMH and the Digital Noback Project).
