Operational Responsibilities of the Deans of Studies
- Study regulations
The deans of studies work to ensure that courses and curricula offered by the faculty comply with examination and study regulations, that degree programmes can be completed properly within the allotted amount of time and that students receive adequate advisory services. They are responsible for the evaluation of teaching based on students’ assessments.
- Reports
The deans of studies regularly report to the dean and faculty committee on their activities, and at least once a semester to the university board of management.
They annually provide the faculty committee with a general (not naming specific persons) report on the state of faculty teaching and submit to the dean their suggestions for the use of teaching-related finances.
- Appointment procedures
And as concerns appointment procedures, the deans of studies are also required to issue an opinion on candidates’ pedagogic aptitude (Art. 40 BayHIG).
