Gaming meets Automotive - A networking event by IHK für Oberfranken Bayreuth

Gaming meets Automotive - What can the automotive industry and the games industry learn from each other? What do new, joint business models look like, and which current developments and potentials support the convergence of the two industries?

This was the topic of discussion at the IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce) for Upper Franconia's dialogue forum in Bamberg on October 8th.

Dr. Dominik Erhard from the IHK opened the afternoon event at the Digital Start-up Center on the new Lagarde Campus in Bamberg. The opening consisted of four short lightning talks by innovation experts from the companies Motherson DRSC, CipSoft GmbH, solectrix GmbH, and EarReality.

A particular highlight was the presentation by Serkan Yücebas, an expert in in-car entertainment, who presented current trends as well as differences and similarities between the Chinese and German automotive markets. His conclusion was that more commitment and courage are needed in the automotive industry to implement new ideas and concepts and to avoid falling behind.

In the afternoon, we (Prof. Dr. Benedikt Morschheuser) participated in a fishbowl discussion with Serkan Yücebas, Paul Redetzky (Emergo Entertainment GmbH), and Christian Meister (ofraCar – Automotive Network e.V.), moderated by Prof. Dr. Claus-Christian Carbon (Otto-Friedrich University Bamberg), discussing the future of in-car entertainment and the potential in this area for Franconian automotive suppliers and the games industry.

It was a great event. Many thanks again to everyone involved for the organization!

For those who would like to delve deeper into the topic: Our doctoral students Johanna Eiting and Jonathan Stief recently published a paper that provides an overview of current research on in-car gaming: dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3748602
