Gamification Research Group presents research and student projects at GG Bavaria

At GG Bavaria in Munich – Bavaria’s largest gaming convention – the Gamification Research Group at the University of Bamberg is presenting current research projects, serious games, and student developments. Visitors can try out, among other things, a VR exergame, the health game Inflammania 3D, VR applications from the EU project TRUST, as well as games by alumni and researchers, and gain insights into our latest games research. ?

? This weekend, we are at GG Bavaria and are excited to present our latest projects from research and teaching at Bavaria’s largest gaming convention.

At our booth, we provide exciting insights into student projects as well as current research from the Gamification Research Group at Otto-Friedrich University Bamberg. At the same time, we are taking the opportunity to engage with many interested visitors and inspire potential students to study in beautiful Bamberg.

A special highlight is an interactive VR exergame developed by our doctoral researcher Sandra Birnstiel together with students Ian Glinsboeckel and Moritz Neumeier. The project demonstrates how gamification and virtual reality can be innovatively applied in sports.

We are also presenting Inflammania3D and Inflammania2—games developed in collaboration with Erlangen University Hospital to educate patients and the general public about chronic inflammatory diseases:

Also featured is a VR application from the EU project TRUST, developed by our student Huzaifa Jamal together with Maximilian Wittmann, Sandra Birnstiel, Shamim Miroliaei, and Amir Moghaddam. The goal of the project is to use game technologies to help professionals better understand AI in the context of quality inspection robots:

Another exciting project is “PRIME – Privacy in the Metaverse”, presented by our doctoral researcher Runjie Xie and Marlene Jachnik. Yesterday, together with Dr. Julius Rauber, we also shared insights from this project in a professional talk with the game development community in Bavaria:

We are also especially proud to showcase games developed by our alumni. One example is Black Demeter by Maximilian Skawran, who became self-employed after his studies and is using the event to gather valuable feedback for further development of his game:

Anyone who would like to experience what it feels like to live with Long COVID can also try the game “My Pair of Shoes” by our doctoral researcher and former master’s student Florian Enders:

? A big thank you to our fantastic team and students, whose dedication, creativity, and energy make these projects possible and our presence at GG Bavaria so special! Many thanks as well to Games/Bavaria and Medien.Bayern for the invitation and organization of GG Bavaria—it is always a pleasure to be part of it.

If you’d like to play some games today: come by! GG Bavaria and our booth are located in the Small Olympic Hall in Munich.
