Sport is of great importance at the University of Bamberg, and this is not only due to the fact that more than 4,000 students at the University of Bamberg take advantage of the courses offered by General University Sports, but also because the sports didactic teaching degree programmes and the required sport elective in the bachelor’s degree programme Education enjoy constant popularity.
In addition, a variety of sporting events supplement the regular semester programme. For example, competition teams often emerge from the university sports courses, which either compete in internal university tournaments (e.g. volleyball or football) or represent the University of Bamberg at Bavarian and German university championships.
In January 2006, the German University Sports Federation (ADH) named the University of Bamberg a Partner University of High Performance Sports. Currently, more than ten top athletes studying at the University of Bamberg are involved in the project.
