Short description of the study program

The Bachelor's and Master's degree courses in Vocational Education/Social Pedagogy (formerly Teaching Qualification for Vocational Schools/Social Pedagogy and Social Services) differ from other teacher training courses in their close connection to jobs in the social sector.

In three study sections, you will deal theoretically, analytically and practically with questions of vocational education, its preparation for teaching and its communication in social education institutions of all kinds.

With a sound scientific basis, you will increase your ability to reflect on the problems of initial, continuing and further training, and to design and further develop schools and teaching.

Structure of this Bachelor's degree

The Bachelor's degree program in Vocational Education/Social Pedagogy and Social Services spans a wide-ranging and demanding program:

  • general educational science, psychology and school education subjects of the so-called EWS area, which are fundamental for all teaching careers
  • A special emphasis is placed on the subjects of the professional specialization (social pedagogy, elementary and family pedagogy, psychology, sociology, diversity pedagogy, law). They form the scientific basis and, as later teaching subjects, also require specific didactic skills, the training of which is a focus of the Master's degree course.
  • Research Methodology and Vocational Education
  • Second teaching subject (German, English, Art, Music, Catholic/Evangelic Religion, Politics and Society can be chosen, as well as Mathematics, Sport, Biology in cooperation with the University of Erlangen).

Your Career Prospects

The Bachelor's degree in Vocational Education prepares students for the consecutive Master's degree, and thus for the teaching profession at vocational schools/specialization in social education.
