Research Interests

Research at the Chair of Developmental Psychology focuses on individual differences in cognition, subjective well-being, and social relationships across the entire lifespan, with an emphasis on adulthood. We use micro- and macro-longitudinal research methods to investigate differential developmental processes across various time scales. Our research examines development on multiple temporal levels: from cohort differences that unfold over decades, to individual differences in multi-year macro-longitudinal trajectories, to intensive micro-longitudinal processes spanning days or even hours. We study the interplay between individual differences in long-term developmental patterns and everyday functioning to gain new insights into developmental processes across the lifespan.

Project aims
“Daily influences on memory issues in older adults”, German Research Foundation (DFG), Principal Investigators: Johanna Hartung & Gizem Hülür (University of Bamberg), Luca Kleineidam & Michael Wagner (DZNE Bonn), David Berron (DZNE Magdeburg); Duration: November 2025 - October 2028The overall aim of the study is to gain a deeper understanding of everyday memory problems in older people, particularly those who seek medical advice due to subjective cognitive complaints, depressed patients who also often complain of cognitive difficulties, and healthy older individuals. We use smartphone-based experience sampling methods and digital memory tests to assess subjective memory problems, memory performance, and correlates in everyday life.
