e-Wanderlust: Global Research on Digital Nomads
Content and Objectives
Technological progress is continuously creating new opportunities to reshape careers and work environments, influencing the flexibilisation of work and work behaviours. One growing trend is digital nomadism, where the boundaries between work and life blur, enabling people to work from anywhere while traveling the world. Digital nomads are individuals who leverage digital technologies to work remotely, giving them the freedom to choose their work locations and schedules. Typically, they travel to at least three different destinations annually that are neither their home nor the home of family or friends.
The e-Wanderlust: Global Research on Digital Nomads Project is a predominantly quantitative, large-scale, cross-country data collection study aimed at understanding the lives of digital nomads across 30 countries.
Launched in Fall 2023, the research spans multiple regions and cultures, incorporating all GLOBE cultural bands. The project’s primary focus is to explore key aspects of digital nomads' lives, including their work habits, sleep patterns, stress levels, and overall well-being, with plans to expand the study as more data is collected.

Bamberg Competencies
The focus on the dynamics of work, sleep, stress, well-being, and overemployment among digital nomads aims to better understand the growth of digital nomadism and its establishment as a form of work flexibilisation. The scope of the research may expand as the study progresses.
