Doctoral Members

There are two ways to apply for a doctoral membership at the Bamberg Graduate School of Social Sciences:

01. Application with BAGSS Funding

The Starter Scholarships

Prospective doctoral members can apply for a Starter Scholarship from the Graduate School. Starter Scholarships are awarded for a period of one year only, with the possibility of extension. Within this year, Starter Scholarship holders are expected to develop an excellent research proposal, which they will use to apply for further funding from an external source.

The Graduate School in cooperation with the Graduate Centre Trimberg Research Academy - TRAc supports its Starter Scholarship holders in identifying further funding opportunities. Once having secured further funding for the next 2-3 years, candidates will remain members of the Bamberg Graduate School of Social Sciences and will continue to work in Bamberg under the supervision of their initial supervisory committee.

The Graduate School offers up to four (4) Starter Scholarships per year and scholarship holders can begin with their doctoral studies either at the summer or the winter term.

02. Application without BAGSS Funding

for Doctoral Membership

Self-funded doctoral fellows of the University of Bamberg, e.g. employed as lecturers or researchers or recepients of a scholarship from an external institution, can apply for a doctoral membership at the Bamberg Graduate School of Social Sciences. To apply, the main supervisor of their doctoral projects must be a faculty member of BAGSS. The Graduate School receives applications for doctoral memberships without funding throughout the year. Applications are examined and approved by the executive committee on a regular basis.
