Theses (Bachelor / Master thesis)

Yes. The thesis counts towards the examination period of the semester in which it was submitted, regardless of the time of the oral examination and the submission date in the registration form for the thesis. Therefore, enrolment is only required until the actual submission of the thesis. You may not be on leave to register or submit your thesis.

The date of the actual submission of the thesis to the examination office is decisive. You do not have to be enrolled for the correction period.

At the request of the examination candidate, the examination board can also approve a topic from another subject, e.g. Subjects in the group of applied computer science, computer science and business administration. If the candidate would like to write a thesis from this subject area, an application must be submitted to prove that the subject is related to the current course of study.

For approval, you would have to submit an exposé on the content of the work, which shows the extent to which the work is related to business informatics / IISM / business education WI. This should be content-related and not only relate to acquired knowledge. In addition, you would have to tell the chairman of the examination board the final title of the thesis, as this is part of the approval and cannot be changed afterwards.

An application must be made independently by email to the chairman of the examination board.

If you would like to write a thesis in cooperation with an external partner, inquire early on whether a chair can supervise the desired topic accordingly. Approach the chair directly with the proposed topic and discuss whether supervision would be possible. All further steps regarding registration, title, etc. then also discuss this with your supervisor

Crediting of examination results

If the change between two courses takes place within the University of Bamberg, please send the grade sheet that you generate from FlexNow2 to the WI service desk. You also send a credit application.

If you have previously studied at another university, please send your transcript of records of the previous university to the Servicedesk WI, including a list of modules you would like to have credited as well as a description of the modules. Further information can be found at Crediting of study times, examination achievements and course achievements.

Upgrading by one semester takes place when> = 30 ECTS points are credited. The upgrade is carried out together with the crediting. A separate application is not necessary. Please contact the Service Desk WI if you have any questions about crediting.

We recommend crediting already completed course achievements, e.g. from a previous degree, promptly and at the start of the degree. We want to avoid that e.g. Crediting is no longer possible (see next FAQ item) or the study progress control (study and subject examination regulations §34 of the bachelor’s degree programs) brings the studies into distress.

An application for recognition is no longer possible as soon as the student is in an examination relationship with the university (e.g. after registering for an examination) from which he or she is requesting recognition.

Please note the announcement 2018-01 of the examination board.

Module examinations that you have written on certificate must be submitted to the examination board for crediting.

Have you already taken modules in your previous studies at the University of Bamberg and would like to have these credited? Here is a list of modules / module combinations that can be credited without a certificate of equivalence.

  • BAEES1.1 + BAEES1.3 in combination can be counted as EVWL
  • Wip?d-B-01 can be counted as ISDL-WAWI-B
  • WiMa-B-01a (3 ECTS points) can be counted as WiMa-B-01b (4 ECTS points)
  • WiMa-B-02a (3 ECTS points) can be counted as WiMa-B-02b (4 ECTS points)

Requirements for the master’s course BI / IISM / Business Education / IS

When it comes to admission to the WI, IISM, or Business Education / IS master’s course, the admissions committee may issue conditions (not to be confused with a bridge course).

Start of studies before summer semester 2019:

The requirements are modules that must be completed in addition to the modules of the master’s examination. The requirements must be proven by the end of the maximum study period. For this purpose, after successfully completing all requirements, submit the certificates and / or your FlexNow printout to the WI service desk.

Start of studies from summer semester 2019:

The requirements are modules that must be completed in addition to the modules of the master’s examination. The conditions can be proven within one year. To do this, after successfully completing all requirements, submit the certificates and / or your FlexNow printout to the WI service desk..

General:

The edition modules can be registered via FlexNow. The maximum length of study in a course with a standard study time of 3 semesters (90 ECTS points) is 5 semesters (3 + 2) regardless of the number of additional requirements. The maximum length of study in a course with a standard study time of 4 semesters (120 ECTS points) is 6 semesters (4 + 2) regardless of the amount of the requirements. You can find more information about the maximum length of study HERE.

The additional modules do not appear on the master’s certificate and the grades for these modules are not included in the final grade.

No separate certificate is issued for the additional requirements.

An overview of the grades of the additional modules can be created via FlexNow - data sheet.

Study abroad

There are two ways of crediting foreign work:

1. Module crediting: the module offered abroad (e.g. "Accounting") is credited towards an explicit Bamberg module (e.g. bookkeeping). To do this, you have to submit an equivalency test to the equivalent Bamberg chair (e.g. the Accounting Chair in Bamberg offers). If this confirms that the modules are equivalent, the foreign module can be credited instead of the respective Bamberg module.

2. Module group credit: The content of the module to be credited fits into the intended module group and can be credited to a Bamberg module without being equivalent. When crediting in the profile education course, it should be noted that
    - the module is related to the course
    - the module to be credited is not a basic module of the respective course.

The Service Desk WI will be happy to answer specific questions about module group crediting.

See also the pages of the examination board.

Please note that according to the study and subject examination regulations, "the examinations to be performed should be agreed with the responsible examination board before the start of the stay abroad".

There is no general answer to that. Basically, there is the possibility of taking a leave of absence to study abroad. A vacation semester means that your number of semesters will not increase. If you have taken a leave of absence, one semester will be added to you for every 30 ECTS points that are credited to you from studying abroad.

If you are on leave, you can only take repeat exams at the University of Bamberg. If you have any further questions, please contact the student office responsible for leave of absence.

In a learning agreement, we confirm that the foreign courses you have chosen can be counted towards your degree in Bamberg.

If you want to have courses that you have completed or will take abroad credit for your studies, these must be approved by the examination board. If this happens in advance of the study abroad, we will make a learning agreement. If you have not agreed a learning agreement and the examination of the foreign courses will only take place after the stay abroad, it may happen that not all of the courses you have chosen are taken into account.

In principle, module descriptions of the foreign modules are required for a learning agreement.

If you want to replace a Bamberg module with a foreign module, conclude the learning agreement with the specialist representative.

If you would like to introduce foreign modules in compulsory elective areas (e.g. in the profile training course), conclude the learning agreement directly with the examination board. Please contact the WI service desk for this.

Forms for both module and module group crediting can be found on the website of the examination board.

If something changes in your choice of course at the foreign university, please contact the WI service desk. Additional modules or changes to existing modules can then also be issued by email to the Learning Agreement.

Yes, as long as the foreign modules are technically appropriate. Then contact the Service Desk WI with module descriptions and the foreign certificate.

After your studies abroad, please contact the Service Desk WI with your certificate and learning agreement (or module descriptions).

In the case of module group credit, the ECTS points that you have received abroad will be credited. If the module is credited, the ECTS points of the Bamberg module are recorded.

In some cases, there are recommendations for grade conversion, which are issued by the partner university. If this is the case, add this conversion recommendation to the credit application. If the conversion recommendations are accepted by us, we will take them into account. If there are no recommendations for conversion, the official "Bavarian formula" is used and the information from Anabin is used.

You can take additional modules in Bamberg. Which modules you can choose depends on your degree program:
