Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches

No programming background necessary, basic knowledge on statistical analysis is advantages but not strictly necessary.

Inhalt

You want to create stunning plots? You have a paper coming up (Bachelor Thesis/Master Thesis) but do not know how to analyze research data? You want to save yourself time and energy clicking through SPSS? Look no further. This introductory course into R, will teach you everything you need to know; how to import the data, preprocess it, summarize it, plot it, analyze it and create a visually appealing final report. Some knowledge of R is also very helpful for the master statistics lecture and other seminars, because there it is very shortly introduced and then you are expected to work with it, understand outputs etc. If you bring your own data, you are already set for success! But do not worry, if you do not have any data yet, some will be provided.

Zeit: Mi 14:00 - 16:00

Inhalt

Do you find statistics boring and confusing? Did the statistics lecture leave you with questions about Bayesian statistics? Do you want to improve and better understand your analysis? Then this seminar is for you.

In this seminar we will approach statistics from a different perspective than typical courses. Instead of learning different methods to analyze specific problems, we will learn how to build a statistical model from the ground up with the goal of being able to build a customized model for any statistical problem and analysis, so you will understand exactly what your analysis does and why you are doing it in this way. We will start with a basic concept of probability and proceed to understanding what statistical models are and how to build them. Over the course of the seminar, we will move forward to more advanced topics such as use of path diagrams (a.k.a. directed acyclic graphs) to identify spurious associations and infer causality, adding flexibility to the analysis via generalized linear multilevel models, using information criteria to evaluate our models, performing power analysis, etc.

Forming a book club we will read Statistical Rethinking by Richard McElrath https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/statistical-rethinking/9781482253481/. It is an excellent introductory statistics book that explain even most intimidating topics very clearly, links all seemingly discrepant topics together, and has plenty of examples in R. We will read one chapter every week and discuss the topics and questions during the seminar. Some Bachelor level knowledge of statistics and R is beneficial, but no prior knowledge beyond high school algebra is required!

(II) Methoden

1) Qualitative Methoden

Qualitative Methoden in der psychologischen Forschung

Dozent/in

Lasse Peschka

Angaben

Seminar
Online

Zeit: Mo 14:00 - 16:00

Inhalt

2) Replikationsstudien

Dozent/in

Dr. Lukas R?seler

Angaben

Seminar

Zeit und Ort: Mo 10:00 - 12:00, M3N/03.28

Inhalt

2) Programming (Python)

Dozent/in

Dr. Alexander Pastukhov

Angaben

Seminar
Online

Zeit: Di 8:00 - 10:00, MG2/00.09

Inhalt

Want to write your own experiment? This seminar introduces you to the programming language Python in a fun and playful way. No literally! Together we will program games (because psychological experiments are merely boring games), including familiar favorites such as "Snake", “Memory”, "Space invaders" using field-standard PsychoPy library.
This course is especially tailored to your needs as a student in the humanities. No prior programming skills required, as you will learn all necessary material starting from basic variables and functions, proceeding to conditional statements, list, and dictionaries, and further to more advanced topics of using classes and object-oriented programming. In addition, the aim of the course is to develop good programming habits and skills including debugging, use of linters to ensure consistent style, git for version control, etc.
